Charlie Scamp, English Gypsy singer, older brother of Phoebe Smith.

He was recorded 15th January 1954 by Peter Kennedy at Chartham Hatch, near Canterbury, Kent. Born at nearby Chilham, his father was William Scamp, horse-dealer of Ramsgate, and his mother was Anne Jones of Sussex.

He told Peter Kennedy that he had 500 relations living in Canterbury in the horse trade. He had travelled in Ireland, Scotland, France and Wales horse dealing.
