According to Sharp's notes, Mr Benstead was 68. Although there are plenty of Bensteads listed in the 1901 census in the Warehorne/Hamstreet area, a George Benstead of the right age has not been found. There was a George Bensted (sic) born at Orlestone in 1843, but he appears to have left the area; George Frampton has suggested that the most likely candidate is William Benstead (born c1833), of Tinlon Farm, Warehorne. | |||

Sang The Barley Mow (Roud 944) for Cecil Sharp, 22nd September 1908.
According to Sharp's notes, Mr Benstead was 68. Although there are plenty of Bensteads listed in the 1901 census in the Warehorne/Hamstreet area, a George Benstead of the right age has not been found.
