Referencing and cross referencing songs is obviously a complex business and one of the most important tools that has been evolved to assist this is the Roud Index devised by Steve Roud. While contributing a song text it would be wise to check out its place in the scheme of things at the Vaughan Williams Memorial Library web site where you can search The Roud Folksong Index and The Roud Broadside Index
The preferred format for contributing a song text is:
- Title: The actual song page name should demote the word The, if it occurs, to the end of the title but this can be displayed as normal in the text.
- Roud Index Number Using Roud Numbers
- Sung by {Performer} of {Place, including County} From {Source - Recorded or published, etc.}
- Song Text
