People are Folk:Folk are People

It's rather obvious really. Folk is done by people! The people who do Folk are many and various.

There are people who.....

Perform

Performers come in all shapes and sizes. Some are professional, some semi-professional and thousands do it just for the hell of it!

Some sing, some dance, some tell stories, some play instruments, some do it for money, some do it for free, some are well practiced, others are just getting there...

Organise

Festivals, Folk Clubs, Dances, Ceilidhs, Projects, Workshops, Tours, Concerts, Dance Teams, Choirs........ they all need people who can make it happen!

Teach

It's good to have skills. It's even better to pass those skills on to others!

Administer

Treasurers, copyright specialists, lawyers, union officials, risk assessors, insurers..... it's not all glamour is it? Somebody's got to look after the business side of things.

Research

Who are the curators, the archivists, the collectors and hoarders? Who finds out and lets us know what's there for us to dance, sing and celebrate?

Publish

CDs, books, magazines, articles, research papers ..... they weigh down our shelves and hang around for ages until we remember... er.. yes, I've seen that somewhere... hang on, I'll find it in a minute.....

Broadcast

Television, radio, internet...... and then there's that folk song in a drama or a film, there's that documentary on the radio...
