119: Robin Hood and the Monk
From a manuscript in Cambridge University Library c1450. Sole version. Child praises the descriptive elements of the first two stanzas, but to some of us this is simply evidence of the work of a poet of some merit and also that it is unlikely to have passed through the hands of ordinary people. Child relates it to a story of an earlier outlaw, Fulk Fitz Warine. Bronson has a note on the lack of a tune, but no versions.
