Acknowledgements and clarifications.
This transcription work, although carried out by us, Lewis Jones and Simon Furey, would not have been possible without the help and encouragement of the Traditional Song Forum, and Martin Graebe, Steve Gardham and Paul Davenport in particular. We also relied at times on the prior published work done by Roy Palmer and Alan Helsdon to resolve some of the difficulties we encountered in interpreting the Vaughan Williams manuscripts. We acknowledge their efforts with grateful thanks. At the same time, we wish to point out that our work differs from those of Roy and Alan in that our aim was not to produce transcriptions as performance-ready pieces. Instead, we have tried to include all of the musical variations which Vaughan Williams notated; we leave the assembly of each individual piece to the choice of the performer, who may be assured that we have omitted nothing of the music in the original manuscripts.
