If you are a teacher of country dancing and would like to train as a square dance caller, I am happy to provide information. To sum up what is required:

1. You must be thoroughly familiar with square dance syllabus to at least Mainstream level (if you're not sure, you can find a list of the moves on www.callerlab.org; about a third of this will already be familiar to you if you teach English country dancing; 2. You must be willing to set up your own club or class once you have qualified as a caller and be willing to teach your students to Mainstream level.

If you fit the bill, you will be expected to attend a five-day caller school and then be provided with a mentor for two years. The caller school covers, i.a., choreography, sound engineering, stagecraft and sight-calling, so would be useful to anyone wishing to work as an MC.
