There have been almost as many books about folk song in recent times as song books. Most scholars would start with this one:

  • Folk Song in England, A L Loyd, 1967, Lawrence & Wishart and re-issued in the 70s as a paperback by Paladin Books. Described at time as the "handbook" of the folk song revival by the man who was largely responsible for starting it. Well written, in Bert's knowledgeable and genial style. A must.
