Although the most famous publisher of English Dances was John Playford and his descendents, there were many notable publishers throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

In 1900, Frank Kidson published a directory of all the ones uncovered by him in his research.

British Music Publishers Printers and Engravers catalogues known businesses in London, The Provinces, Scotland & Ireland.
