* Folkopedia is intended to be a resource for a wide range of people including pupils and students. Contributors are expected to maintain common standards of decency in both content and language.

* As with all means of publishing, there are local and international laws which govern the rights of individuals not to be libeled or misrepresented. There are also rules which govern copyright. It is assumed that contributors will not add content which contravenes the accepted practice with regard to these issues. In the event of any disputed or questionable content, senior editors may be requested to take appropriate action to assess and if necessary remove or temporarily suspend the relevant pages.

* Folkopedia is a moderated infobase and the senior editors periodically assess content for accuracy. Where dispute arises, appropriate balance will be sought. Contributors should be aware and accept that occasionally, the accuracy of contributions may be questioned or challenged in the spirit of academic rigour. Confrontations will hopefully be avoided in favour of proper discussion.

The full editorial policy will evolve as time goes on, but the aim is to root our information solidly in England and to relate it to all the communities currently represented in England and to the traditional musics which directly complement our own traditions.

You don't have to be an expert to contribute to Folkopedia but we hope you will contibute to topics you actually know about. Because this is intended to be a facility for educational use, we've asked some knowledgeable people - [[FolkopediaFolk|Senior Category Editors and Section Editors]] - to help with keeping things accurate. You can discuss tricky bits with them via the 'talk' pages behind each article

Page editing is straightforward if you have a little experience with html or word processing. Guidance will be made available on the help pages as time goes on.
If you have a contribution and no section to put it in.... have a look on the help page for guidance.

There is a discussion group starting for Folkopedia business. Who knows what will be discussed there.

We are on the lookout for Section Editors who might keep an eye on specific areas of the wiki. A small number have already been identified and are listed on the [[FolkopediaFolk]] page. You might feel that you have enough expertise with regard to a particular collector or a county or a style of dance, etc. to be able to assess people's contributions for accuracy, advise them when things might need checking and occasionally refer issues to the senior category editor. If so, let us know that you are interested in taking a responsibility. See [[Contributors]] for more information.

Finally, anyone is welcome to apply to contribute to Folkopedia as long as they accept the principle of a peer reviewed resource. Please also realise that it is important not to contravene the Intellectual Property Rights of others. Don't post copyright content without the consent of the owner. Please look at the statements at the bottom of each edit page. We are developing strategies to deal with a range of issues and these will be published on the help pages as time goes on. All accounts must be authorised before the account can be used, by putting it into an account such as Editors. Periodically, we delete accounts which are not members of any group, to clean up the user list. Putting a user into group Unprivileged gives it no rights but stops it getting deleted. This is useful for test accounts.

In the early stages it may not be immediately obvious where to place your contributions. If you are logged in click your name (top line) then the "edit" TAB to enter your content. Then:

Probably the easiest solution is to make a link from [[Temporary Store]] to the page you create and then we can organise the actual route to it afterwards.

Click "edit" (after Contribution List). type in a space line and add your line.
